Job Title: Technical Director –  MDI Technology Solutions 

Location: Washington, DC (hybrid) 

National Bankers Association Foundation is the nonprofit arm of the National Bankers Association (NBA), the leading trade association for Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) whose membership includes Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, and women-operated banks across the country and advocate on legislative and regulatory matters concerning and affecting the industry, members, and the communities they serve.  

MDIs are federally insured banks that serve predominantly minority communities, in which minorities own at least 51% of the voting stock and/or comprise most of the board of directors and serve predominately communities of color. 

NBCA’s Strategic Pillars include:  

  1. Financial Wellness – Programs, training, and services to underserved households to support asset accumulation and sustainability. 

  2. Entrepreneurship & Small Business  – Capacity building and access to capital for minority-owned businesses to leverage entrepreneurship and small business ownership as an asset-building tool and local and regional economic driver.  

  3. Research & Impact Assessment – Social and economic impact data collection, tools, and research that identifies the root causes of disparity, supports thought leadership on the wealth divide, and informs the development of products, services, and policies. 

  4. MDI  Collaboration & Capacity – Collaborative capital approaches to support large-scale, catalytic, and high-impact projects, and advance operational efficiencies through shared resources. 

Overview

The Technical Director - MDI Technology Solutions is a senior-level position requiring technology solution development and project management expertise. The Technical Director will lead the development of technology solutions and platform offerings for the MDI segment, which includes defining solutions, commercializing, managing P&L, engaging with the industry, and creating market messaging. In addition, the successful candidate must work collaboratively with various teams, including product, sales, service, and operations to create alignment and maximize market impact and penetration.

Qualifications


The ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of related experience with a deep understanding of the sector. This senior-level position requires expertise in technology solution development, project management, and application architecture, with a strong understanding of APIs.

In this role, you will work closely with senior management and other partners to lead the development of technology solutions and platform offerings for the MDI segment of the banking industry. You will have a deep understanding of the various risk parameters that minority banks operate under, and be able to manage and communicate technical information to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You should be comfortable working in a complex matrix environment, possess strong leadership and team-building skills, and have exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong ability to influence and build consensus. Thinking independently to get a process to the next level is also crucial.

The successful candidate should have a proven track record of execution with a detailed and comprehensive understanding of content. A graduate degree or equivalent experience will be considered. Personal integrity is also a key requirement for this position.

You will collaborate with the Director of Research & Impact to develop research projects and impact stories related to our programs. Therefore, a strong interest in banking and/or FinTech is important, as evidenced by related work experience.

Responsibilities  

  • Lead the development of technology solutions and platform offerings for the MDI segment of the banking industry, including defining solutions, managing P&L, and creating market messaging. 

  • Collaborate with product, service, operations, and business development teams to maximize market impact and penetration. 

  • Facilitate MDI readiness for core solutions, including internal risk approvals, and communicate technical information to stakeholders. 

  • Identify and recommend technology solutions aligned with business goals and objectives. 

  • Develop and manage relationships with external technology partners and ensure on-time, within-budget, and high-quality implementation of technology solutions. 

  • Provide technical expertise to support sales and marketing efforts and manage a team of technical professionals. 

  • Continuously monitor and evaluate technology trends, tools, and methodologies to ensure the latest and most effective technology solutions are utilized.

Location and Compensation  

  • This hybrid position is based in Washington, DC, and may require occasional travel.  

  • The funding for this position comes from grants. 

  • The compensation for this position is up to $150,000/year.
